Why church?
We’re aware that church is a loaded word.
We know that a lot of people have been burned by church.
We, too, share in our cultural skepticism about institutions, whether political, social, or religious.
And we know that church, like so many of these institutions, has contributed more than its share to the world’s pain and injustice.
But we’ve also experienced something sacred in our Christian life.
We’ve found wisdom amid the imperfections of our tradition.
We’ve heard the deep call of the divine in our scriptures.
And we’ve encountered the mystery of death and resurrection in Jesus.
So as confusing, concerning, and complicated as it can feel sometimes, we’re going to go his way.
And as we’re convinced that we can’t do it all alone, we’re going together–by way of church.
