Our mission at Salem United Methodist Church is to live abundantly by growing in faith, fellowship, spirit, and service.
Imagine Ebenezer Scrooge before his visits from the three spirits of Christmas. Pretty unlikeable, right?
Selfish. Grumpy. Greedy. Really putting the “miser” in “miserable.” Yet, understandable.
Understandable? Sure. Who hasn’t struggled with selfishness? Who hasn’t been caught up in the fear of having enough? Who hasn’t worried themselves into misery at one point or another? We loathe Scrooge because we know Scrooge too well. Grasping, we lose…
…but giving, we receive. When we give our lives over to something bigger than ourselves – service, love, God – we really begin to live. Jesus said, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly!” (John 10:10)
Compassionate. Graceful. Generous. Really putting the “light” in “delightful.” That’s where we’re called to go. That’s why we want to grow.
